Hold the jump key
Tapping gives you a short hop, holding gives you a full one. That is not how the original works and it is the one change worth making, because it turns a single-input game into something you can be precise about. Short hops over the small cacti, full ones over the tall clusters.
Ducking is the down arrow, and you need it for the birds. They fly at a height you cannot jump cleanly, so trying will eventually cost you a run.
Why a dinosaur
It shows up when the browser cannot reach the network, and the joke is being stuck in prehistoric times without a connection. It ships inside the browser rather than loading from anywhere, which is the only reason a game can appear on an error page at all.
It sits in the same drawer as the grid at google snake game: no setup, no account, just there. Type chrome://dino in the address bar and you get it without disconnecting. Everything speeds up as you go, and past a certain distance the colours invert into night, which is the point most people find out their reflexes are calibrated for daylight.
Getting further
- Jump later than feels right. The hitbox is smaller than the drawing.
- Do not jump birds. Duck them and keep your recovery time.
- Watch the pace number rather than the distance. It tells you when to start reacting early.
When you want something slower and more deliberate, the grid at google snake is the other game people leave open in a tab.
