Which Android OEM Leads Global Shipments?

Samsung and Apple were the only two vendors in IDC’s top five to grow shipments in Q2 2026. IDC senior research director Nabila Popal attributed the split to memory costs, which the firm reports are up nearly 300% from a year earlier and now account for over 65% of the bill of materials at the low end.

Xiaomi, OPPO and vivo held their rankings from the previous quarter. All three posted double-digit declines.

Samsung lifted its share by 3.2 percentage points and Apple by 3.8, according to IDC vice president Francisco Jeronimo. The platform-level picture moves more slowly than the vendor mix, a pattern visible in the longer record of Android’s position against iOS worldwide.

Samsung and Xiaomi, Q1 2026 to Q2 2026

Samsung’s growth rate roughly tripled between the two quarters while Xiaomi’s decline deepened. The market contracted faster over the same span, moving from 293.8 million units in Q1 to 277.5 million in Q2.

Android OEM Market Share in the United States

Omdia recorded US smartphone shipments of 33.4 million units in Q1 2026, down 3% year over year. Motorola was the only vendor in the ranking to grow.

Omdia analyst Eric Chen credited Motorola’s gain to the refreshed Moto G portfolio, which the firm says accounted for more than 70% of the brand’s quarterly shipments, plus channel inventory pulled forward ahead of April price increases. Google fell as the Pixel 10 series did not match the Pixel 9 launch curve a year earlier.

Where the US Market Grew and Shrank

The middle of the price ladder took the damage. Omdia measured the $300 to $599 band down 19% while the sub-$300 band grew 8%, helped by prepaid demand and buying ahead of price increases on value models.

Android OEM Market Share by Pageview Share

StatCounter measures sampled browser pageviews for a stated month, not units sold or devices owned. Its readings track the installed base and lag shipment swings by years.

Motorola registered 4.04% of US mobile pageviews in July 2026 against an 11% US shipment share in Q1 2026 on Omdia’s separate count. StatCounter labels a 3.98% slice “Unknown” and does not state what sits inside it.

Worldwide in the same month, StatCounter put Apple at 31.59%, Samsung at 19.13%, Unknown at 10.39% and Xiaomi at 10.11%. Country-level readings diverge sharply from the global figure, the same pattern that shows up in desktop OS share broken out by country.

The installed base also sets what Android builds developers can realistically target, and it shapes mobile browser share, which StatCounter counts the same way.

Android OEM Market Share in India

India’s shipments fell 10% year over year in Q2 2026, the biggest June-quarter drop in six years, per Counterpoint Research’s Monthly India Smartphone Tracker. Counterpoint senior analyst Prachir Singh reported an average price increase of around 15% by the end of the quarter.

The sub-₹15,000 segment fell 45%. Chinese brands’ combined share reached its lowest level for a second calendar quarter since 2020. Samsung was the only top-five OEM to grow.

Google was the fastest-growing brand in the ultra-premium tier above ₹45,000 at 68% year over year, which Counterpoint credits to marketing, offline channel expansion and the absence of price hikes. Research director Tarun Pathak expects India to fall 13% for the full year.

Why Android OEM Market Share Figures Disagree

Three firms measured the same quarter and published three different headline numbers. Read growth rates within a source, never across one.

The 2026 Android OEM Market Share Forecast

IDC forecasts worldwide shipments falling 13.9% in 2026 to 1.09 billion units, which the firm calls the steepest annual contraction in smartphone history. Android is forecast down 20% against iOS at 5.2%. Average selling prices are projected to hit a record $550, up $100 in a year.

The damage concentrates at the bottom of the market. IDC expects Samsung to keep gaining share through the year, and says the sub-$100 tier that moved over 170 million devices in 2025 becomes economically unviable.

The underlying cause is memory allocation. Wafer capacity moving toward AI accelerators is the same pressure visible in AI GPU vendor share, and the vendors absorbing it are also the ones with the slowest security patch delivery schedules.
