Asus was the only vendor to grow, and Omdia credits its role supplying Japan’s GIGA 2.0 programme, the US K-12 refresh cycle and back-to-school stocking. Dell lost 47.1% of its volume in the same quarter.
Q1 2026 ran the same direction. Omdia recorded an 11.5% year-on-year fall, with Lenovo down 11.2% to 1.5 million units, HP down 15.3% to 1.0 million, Dell down 28.3% to 413,000, and Asus up 3.5% to 406,000.

StatCounter measures sampled pageviews across its network, not users, installed devices, or corporate fleets. ChromeOS registered 1.53% of worldwide desktop pageviews in August 2026.

Google commissioned Forrester Consulting for a Total Economic Impact study published September 2025. Forrester interviewed six decision-makers and built one composite organisation: a multinational with $5 billion in revenue and 40,000 employees.
That composite recorded a 208% three-year ROI, net present value of $6.8 million, and a payback period under six months. The four benefit categories below are the study’s own published present values.

The $500 per device splits into $300 of hardware and $200 of avoided security and endpoint management licences. Interviewees reported a six-minute drop in login time per employee, and one said ChromeOS tickets took about 15 minutes to resolve against two hours on other operating systems.

Turner Industries reported cost per device 40% to 50% below its previous hardware and expects eight to ten years of service life, a 100% to 125% increase. Wayfair’s $1.2 million is a projection its IT director described as potential, not a booked saving.
Wayfair also said VDI issues had ranked among its top three ticket categories and have since fallen to none, with login times dropping from upwards of 10 minutes to seconds. Chromebook Usage in Enterprise After Windows 10 End of Support
Omdia analyst Kieren Jessop told The Register that 550 million of Microsoft’s 1.4 billion Windows devices run in corporations, and that around half would not meet the deadline to switch to Windows 11. Omdia built the figure from shipment tracking, replacement cycles and net new purchases across 25 years of data.
Roughly 20% of the machines that miss the deadline fail Windows 11 hardware requirements rather than budget, according to Jessop. That subgroup is what ChromeOS Flex targets.
