Enterprise desktop OS deployment statistics, comparing Windows 11 and Windows 10 adoption, servicing timelines, ESU costs, and developer OS usage in 2026.

Managed-fleet scans and web pageviews give two different readings for Windows 10. Lansweeper found it on 16.9% of scanned Windows clients in July 2026, while StatCounter logged 30.14% of desktop Windows pageviews in August 2026. These enterprise desktop OS deployment statistics cover fleet version mix, Windows servicing dates, ESU pricing, Q2 2026 PC shipments, patch timing and developer platforms, with what each figure measures.

Which OS Versions Lead Enterprise Desktop OS Deployment in 2026?

78.8%of Windows devices on Windows 11, July 2026

Windows 11 ran on 78.8% of Windows devices in Lansweeper’s HVMND Collective Intelligence data, published 14 July 2026. Windows 10 held 16.9% of Windows clients.

The dataset is a subset of millions of assets across tens of thousands of customer sites. It describes estates already running asset management software, not every PC.

Lansweeper put Windows 10 at roughly half of Windows machines in mid-2025 and about 18.6% by June 2026. It says the decline has since stalled.

Healthcare’s gap is a migration that has not happened, not blocked hardware. Point-of-sale terminals, rugged handhelds and embedded controllers drive the retail and logistics figures.

A Windows 10 device carried an average of 1,903 active CVEs, against 652 on Windows 11. Counting Windows 7, 8.1 and XP too, 18.7% of the Windows estate runs an end-of-life OS.

How Much Does Delaying Enterprise Desktop OS Deployment Cost?

Microsoft sells commercial Windows 10 ESU through Volume Licensing at $61 per device for Year One. The price doubles each consecutive year for a maximum of three years, which puts Year Two at $122 and Year Three at $244.

ESUs are cumulative. An organisation that joins in Year Two pays for Year One as well, and Year One started in November 2025.

ESU carries no extra charge for Windows 10 virtual machines in Windows 365, Azure Virtual Desktop and Azure virtual machines. Windows 10 endpoints connecting to Windows 365 Cloud PCs get up to three years of ESU with an active subscription.

Patch Timing After Enterprise Desktop OS Deployment

Vulnerability exploitation was the initial access route in 31% of breaches in Verizon’s 2026 DBIR, up from 20% a year earlier. The edition analysed more than 22,000 confirmed breaches from incidents between 1 November 2024 and 31 October 2025.

Median time to fully remediate a CISA Known Exploited Vulnerability rose to 43 days from 32. Only 26% of those vulnerabilities were fully remediated, down from 38%, in data Tenable contributed to the report.

FAQs

What percentage of businesses use Windows 11?

Lansweeper’s managed-fleet data put Windows 11 on 78.8% of Windows devices in July 2026. ControlUp measured 50% of enterprise endpoints migrated in June 2025. Both count devices in vendor customer fleets, not businesses.

How many companies still use Windows 10?

About one Windows machine in six. Lansweeper found Windows 10 on 16.9% of scanned Windows clients in July 2026, rising to 21.4% at SMBs and 16.6% at enterprise scale.

Do Reddit sysadmin threads get Windows 10 ESU pricing right?

Check them against Microsoft Learn. It lists commercial ESU at $61 per device for Year One, doubling each year for up to three years. ESUs are cumulative, so Year Two buyers also pay Year One.
